Deep in the Hundred Acre Wood… Let me show you how to create a sweeter than honey Pooh Party for your little one! It feels like just yesterday I was putting this Winnie the Pooh Party together. When in actuality, it was about 7 years ago! Oh, how the time flies! I believe the theme for this celebration is, however, timeless.
When my dear Adalyn was turning 3, we chose a Pooh party theme because she just adored Winnie the Pooh. I mean, who doesn’t really?! The story is just delightful for both children and adults alike. This beloved bear makes adults feel like kids again and there’s a comfort in the storylines and sweet simplicity when you read it or watch the movies.
Design Inspiration
In recent years, I know there have been updated versions- new tv shows with more modern graphics, but I stuck with the classic “vintage” Winnie the Pooh-style that I always remembered as a kid. I love the themes woven throughout all the stories and those memorable quotes that evoke childhood exploration and pure innocence.
The color palette that I wanted to stick with here were the vintage Pooh-style primary colors: red, yellow and blue.
Sweeter Than Honey Pooh Table Decor
For the table scape, I visited Joann Fabric and purchased some material to create a runner long enough to extend the two large tables I borrowed from our preschool. I liked this red fabric because it had almost a honey-combed pattern on it. Next, I found an old, used Winnie the Pooh Golden Book at my favorite book shop in town! This was so perfect as I could rip out its pages to frame sweet, classic Winnie the Pooh pics in small white Ikea frames that I already had. Each table setting included simple pale yellow plates and plasticware, a small personalized flower pot for each child to paint at the craft table, as well as some vintage Pooh stickers I found on Etsy.
Banners and Balloons
My daughter’s birthday is in the summer, so I decided to host her party out in our barn. At the barn door entrance, I created a “Happy Birthday” sign with white acrylic paint on a red and yellow cloth banner that I found at a Michael’s craft store. Red, yellow, blue and white balloons went along with my color scheme.

DIY Pooh Party Signage
It’s always fun to get really into a good theme. DIY signage for this Pooh Party included: “Hundred Acre Wood”, “Rabbit’s Garden”, and “Mr. Sanders”.
Winnie the Pooh & Tigger Photo Op
If you’ve noticed with most of the other parties that I host for my children, their grandmother always seems to come through with an amazing photo op/character cut-out. This party was no different, as she painted an adorable Pooh and Tigger mural for kids to pose behind!
Winnie the Pooh Party Food & Dessert Table
I would say 95% of the time I go with ordering pizza for my kids parties. Almost everyone loves pizza, and it just keeps things simple. So that’s exactly what we did for this party.
Sweeter Than Honey DIY Beehive Cake
When brainstorming a dessert for this party, I wanted to do something really unique and fitting with the theme. This Beehive Cake fit the bill! So how do you make a beehive cake, you ask? First, I purchased this cake pan. Next, I looked up this Honey-Glazed Lemon Beehive Cake recipe. Then I ordered these cute little sugar bees.
Next, I made “Tigger Tails” which were essentially just pretzel rods dipped in white chocolate that I turned orange with my favorite natural food coloring. Drizzle chocolate over once dry, and WA-LAH! Tigger tails – How cute!
My girls and I always LOVE to bake together for upcoming birthdays and holidays, so we found Winnie the Pooh cookie cutters and made our favorite sugar cookie recipe. This cookie recipe is the best, hands-down. You don’t even need to chill the dough.
Since we already had plenty of sweetness going on here, I didn’t think full-sized cupcakes were necessary, so we made itty-bitty vanilla ones and added more of those sugar bees on top! I love to either make my own organic frosting or if I’m in a pinch and short on time, I buy this one.
“I’m so rumbly in my tummy!” – Pooh
Instead of my traditional cake holder, these big rough-cut slabs of wood did the trick and helped to create a more rustic “Hundred-Acre” feel for the cake presentation.
“A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside.” – Pooh
I didn’t take a closer picture of them, but the party favors were pure honey bear lollipops displayed in a basket on the dessert table that I purchased in bulk at a local orchard. These ones are similar.
There were also two flower pots that I painted to look like jars overflowing with honey! You can see them in my second Winnie the Pooh party that I hosted for my other daughter a few years later in another blog post!
Craft Table
The craft for this party could not be easier. Simply provide acrylic paint, paintbrushes, water, and tiny flower pots for the guests to decorate and bring home! Kids always love a painting project!
DIY Beehive Pinata
Let’s hit rewind and go back to that time when I made my kids birthday piñata. Yes… MADE a piñata. I had only two kids at the time, and my youngest was so little that she was still sleeping a lot during the day and I’m thinking that’s how I managed to do it.
Truthfully, it was very easy and inexpensive! It would be a good project to do with your kids and to save some money instead of buying a piñata. I originally worried that it might break apart too easily or too quickly, but when it came down to it we couldn’t get that thing to crack! Parents were joking with me wondering what it was made of!
I’m actually not a very “crafty” person. So how did I make this? I followed this tutorial.
“Isn’t it funny how a bear likes honey? Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! I wonder why he does?” — Winnie the Pooh
Pin the Tail on Eeyore Game
My mother also painted a large Eeyore on cardboard and created little tails for kids to play “pin the tail on Eeyore”! This is such a great game for kids of all ages!
Ironically, as I recall, we had an actual bee situation in the front of our house on the day of the party(!) We had to alert guests to avoid the front of our house. Fortunately, the bulk of the party took place down in the barn but it just goes to show you, you never know quite what to expect when you’re hosting!
All in all, it was such a sweet party! Hopefully some of these ideas can help you to plan your own Classic Winnie the Pooh Party … and you can make sure to watch out for bees!
