What do you do when your kid has a birthday party in the dead of Winter? Embrace the cold and throw them a DIY Winter Princess Party! Here are some ideas to host your very own frozen princess birthday party that will warm everyone’s heart!
DIY Winter Princess Party Inspiration & Design
Inspiration for this party came from the lovely invitation you see above featuring sweet shades of blue, snowflakes, and florals!
My lovely daughter decided she would just love a snow princess theme, but of course as an animal lover she did not want to leave out any arctic creatures! She requested that her cake display these critters – and I obliged! …Because what kid doesn’t love polar bears, seals, snow rabbits and wolves?!
I knew I needed a good backdrop for behind the dessert table, so I found this very fitting winter castle one. The hanging white paper snowflake decorations were a nice addition and added some height and depth to the setup besides the homemade snowflakes my daughter already created.

Winter Princess Costume
We told everyone to dress up for the party if they wanted to. Lots of the girls came wearing dresses. We found this stunning dress for my Ellie, and party crowns and snowflake wands for each guest made every little princess feel special!
DIY Winter Princess Party Cake
As I’ve said in many of my other party posts, I love to bake with my kids leading up to their birthdays, so the baked goods maybe don’t look “professional”, but they are made with lots of love! Getting my kiddos into the kitchen is really important to me, and I love how excited they are to help. For this cake, I used my favorite gluten free vanilla cake mix. I then made a buttercream and turned it light blue with all natural food coloring, another favorite!
The arctic animals were easy and fun toppers. They also serve as great toys and memorabilia for the birthday girl to keep after the party.
The custom topper was an Etsy find.
Craft Table
This craft is a big hit for the girls and super simple. Just purchase little wooden jewelry boxes and provide paint, some stickers and jewels from the dollar store. They will have so much fun customizing them! It’s also nice to give them something useful to bring home to remember their time at the party.
Winter Princess Makeup & Manicure Station
My oldest daughter and her friend were so excited to give the younger guests manicures and to do their makeup. The little girls just ate this up! I wanted to use a gentle kids makeup that would remove easily, be non-toxic and non-irritating on sensitive skin so I purchased this makeup set for the girls to use.
We had such a great day celebrating my Ellie turning 6! I hope you’ve enjoyed and been inspired by this DIY Winter Princess Party! There are plenty of fun things to do inside if your kid has a winter birthday, you just need to do a little extra brainstorming! Hopefully this was helpful for you.
