Check out this sweet and “storybook-esque” (is that even a word?!!) Woodland Animal Mural my mother painted in my girls bedroom. It was time to switch over our large guest room into our girls’ new bedroom. The room was much bigger than the one they had been sharing, and we only used the guest room occasionally. It only made sense to let the girls have it. Boy, were they excited! They helped to pick out the pale pink wall color, and even helped me paint! Watch as these plain, boring bedroom walls turn into every little girls dream bedroom with a Storybook-Esque Woodland Animal & Unicorn Mural!
Pale Pink Walls… check! Mattress on the floor to have hours of bouncy fun… check!
A Blank Slate
Once we finished painting, we noticed how large and open the walls were in their new room and had the idea of asking my mother to paint a mural! My mother excitedly agreed, so the next big question of course was, “of what!?”
My girls were and still are obsessed with tiny woodland creatures of all sorts, and of course you can’t just make any forest without adding a shimmery magical unicorn! DUH!
The Artist
My mom is a super talented artist. She doesn’t think she’s very good, and I think most artists would say they’re “not good”, but as you can see, she is amazing! Especially when creating something to this scale it takes a lot of time and lots of planning. She has done a few bedroom and nursery murals before, and she is actually currently illustrating a children’s book about a unicorn and we can’t wait to see how it turns out!
The Vision and the Process
It took a few days of sketching out on the wall where everything would be placed. Coming up with a design was the fun part and a joint effort! The kids and I cut out and collected pictures from magazines and books that we saw of beautiful forests and pictures of unicorns to show my mom.
Completed Storybook-Esque DIY Woodland Animal Mural
I am so thrilled with how this mural turned out. I love how many animals are included: a unicorn, deer, fox, rabbits, bird, hummingbird, butterflies, and even a tiny mouse! For years this has made my girls room so special. They wake up each day to seeing these friendly critters, and go to bed every night by the dim light of their nightlight feeling like they are going to sleep in an enchanted forest! What could be better? It looks stunning in all types of lighting.
I’m so grateful my mom took the time to do this for her granddaughters. I just know they will forever have the sweetest memories of their childhood room.
I hope this mural has inspired you to create something special in your little one’s bedroom or play area! If you like a Woodland Theme, you definitely need to check out our Woodland Themed Birthday Party! As always, you can find more Life on Fern design inspiration right here.
