One favorite family tradition of ours is that we love to bake sugar cookies together! (Any excuse to make cookies really!) We love to pick out cute cookie cutters to match a theme for a birthday party, for holidays and special occasions… my girls have grown up in the kitchen making them with me. Of course the older they get, the more involved they can be and I’m pretty sure it was last year that my oldest really started to take control of the process and I got to sit back and relax a bit!
As you will see in some of the pictures below, we have used this recipe for Valentine’s Day, Christmas, birthdays, celebrating Fall, you name it we’ve done it! I love that this recipe is gluten-free since so many people are nowadays.

Ultimate Fool-Proof Sugar Cookie Recipe (GF)
Ingredients
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 cup (White) Granulated Sugar
- 1 ½ tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 Egg
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- ½ tsp Salt
- 3 cups Gluten-Free All Purpose Flour
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350° F and line a baking sheet or two with non-stick parchment paper
- Using a mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until nice and smooth
- Add in your vanilla extract and egg
- In a separate bowl, mix together your dry ingredients: the baking powder, flour and salt
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in the mixer
- Make sure to keep mixing until the dough is pulling away from the sides of the mixer – IF dough looks too dry turn out your dough on the surface of a clean countertop, flouring the surface as needed. Wet your hands and finish kneading dough by hand
- NO CHILLING REQUIRED!
- It's time to start rolling and cutting out your cookies! Cut them out preferably 1/4 inch rather than 1/8 of an inch. You will want them to be on the thicker side.
- Bake at 350℉ for 6-8 minutes
Notes
Icing for the Ultimate Fool-Proof Sugar Cookies
To make a simple icing, stir together some organic powdered sugar and organic almond milk or another nut milk. You’ll only need a few small splashes of milk for about 2 cups of powdered sugar. A little bit goes a long way. Next, I’ll add in a little Natural Food Coloring. To finish off the cookies, these beautiful sprinkles are a favorite of mine and I’m so glad I discovered this brand years ago – they have nothing artificial in them!
